In honor of the 93rd Birthday of Martin Luther King Jr……

January 9 – 13, 2023

*Remember NO SCHOOL Monday, January 16th*

This week has been an incredibly productive time for Classroom 2! The students’ desire to participate in lessons and complete work has kept us on our toes!! We are seeing a level of independence and confidence in our children that would make even Maria Montessori proud!

Ms. Carmen has been having so much fun with our students in her Chinese class! They have been dwelling on the Chinese New Year celebration! Ms. Carmen has been so adorable as she arrives at school each day in traditional Chinese clothing! We are so fortunate to have a teacher who is versed in so many different cultures and speaks so many different languages! Ask your students about the Chinese New Year this weekend!

In honor of the 93rd birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. this week we have chosen to read a new book written by his sister. My Brother Martin, by Christine King Farris, is about growing up in the family with MLK. It was great to have a different perspective on King’s life, focusing on his family and childhood. His desire for peace across the land is a message that continues to resonate loudly today, almost 60 years after his death. We had a great follow-up conversation about keeping peace in our classroom, with friends, and at home. We made origami peace doves as a reminder of our commitment to pursue peace in all things!
As we enjoy another long weekend, please remember that reading requires frequent and consistent practice. Trips to the library and bookstore and ordering from the Scholastic bookstore are both motivational and FUN! If you choose to order from Scholastic this month please note that the orders should be in so that I may send them by 3:30 on Tuesday, January 17th! They have an amazing collection of books, so feel free to pursue the website if you are looking for something you don’t see in the flyers! They have an amazing collection of books! Please use our class code, LYNVH.

Please note that we added an additional homework to the January assignment. We sent hard copies of the Science collection report home in folders this week. They are due on January 31st.

Enjoy your long weekend!
