🌷Happy Spring!🌷

March 20 – March 25, 2023

What a great week we had in Classroom 2-terrific! Our students were on fire for lessons. It is awesome to watch them work with such confidence as they move from lesson to lesson and complete each task to the end. We have come a long way since August and are so very proud of our students!

Enjoy your break! We will see you in April!

Another Fabulous Week!

March 13 – 17, 2023

Classroom 2-rrific had another fabulous week!

A Montessori classroom is always full of excitement! It can be a holiday or a cultural celebration, a special birthday, or simply a delightful share from a child. We delight in life itself! But this week we celebrated March 14th or Pi Day! It began as soon as children arrived and immediately posted their Pi Day homework on the bulletin board to share with classmates! Such great artwork! The fun began soon after as students traveled in their cultural groups to each teacher in the Lower Elementary to study the meaning of Pi! The children created artwork and built an endless paperchain with numerals.  They wrote fun “Pi-kus” based on 3.14. And finally, students used various-sized circles from soup cans to hula hoops to prove the Pi theory correct. It was a morning full of fun and math that ended with, you guessed it, a piece of piE!

Friday brought St.Patrick’s Day to our classroom. Students celebrated each other as they proudly sported everything from green hair clips and bows to necklaces, bracelets, rings, t-shirts, dresses, pants, sweatshirts, hats, socks, and shoes! We made origami shamrocks to decorate the room! There was plenty of Luck o’ the Irish to go around!

You can feel the excitement building toward spring break. The children have begun sharing their plans for the special week to come. It doesn’t seem to matter how simple or extravagant a holiday is in the works, everyone looks forward to a few days “off”!

Busy Week!

March 6 – March 10, 2023

This week started with a bang as our amazing third-level students were invited to the upper elementary classrooms for a glimpse of the future! They were so excited to spend a morning work block with old and new friends while experiencing new lessons and teachers. Returning to our classroom, they were so proud to share how confident they felt to complete the lessons presented and to be successful at the upper level. Tuesday brought another moment for third-level students to experience life in the upper as they field trip together to a Birmingham Squadron basketball game! It is bittersweet to watch how well they fit in and find common ground with the 9-12-year-old children. The next level is looming…

Simultaneously occurring, next year’s first-level children came to spend the morning in our classroom.  First and second-level students were able to experience how next year might feel in the mentor and leadership positions offered by a Montessori classroom. We were proud to watch as our children took their jobs very seriously and patiently led the younger students through lessons, snack time, and the completion of a fun craft. What a great morning for everyone!

We would like to thank Dr. Priscilla Denny, a local orthodontist, and parent of two amazing daughters that have attended JBMA, for visiting the Lower Elementary this week. She brought visual aids and a great deal of information for our students about braces, appliances, and colorful rubber bands(!!!) She did indeed say that children should visit an orthodontist by 7 years of age as there is a great deal that may be done preemptively these days. We were very excited to have her on International Women’s Day! She shared her journey of being born in Brazil and inspired by a loving aunt to work hard.  She persevered through some tough times and disappointments. Not to be defeated, she worked even harder to achieve her dream of becoming a dentist and orthodontist in the United States of America. Such an inspiring story!

The first performance of “Peter Pan” is in the books! What a great collaborative effort from our JBMA drama team led by Ms. Kimberly, with Mr. Jonathan, Mr. Dana, a host of volunteer parents, and of course, our performers and backstage crew! Congratulations to ALL!

Let’s chat about Parents’ Night…

February 21 – February 24, 2023

The absolute highlight of our week was Parents’ Night! Our students worked hard to make sure you had a wonderful evening! Not only did they select the lesson that they each wanted to share, they then chose their own place in the room where they wanted to present. Finally, they cleaned every material and shelf in the classroom! They wanted it to look and smell so nice for you! We hope everyone had a fabulous time and learned a lot about what your student does each day!
